A Random Hair Staple - Detangler

I've densely highlighted my hair for years. I actually just decided to go light brown (all one color) but the new color is not sticking to the blonde highlights so I'm kind of two-toned right now. Bleach is really damaging to your hair so being gentle with it when washing, brushing and styling it is key.

I use the Wet Brush and the Tangle Teezer to make sure I am ultra kind to my wet and extremely tangled hair. You can use them together or individually. I find that with the Tangle Teezer alone it can take a while to get through the layers of hair, which sometimes I just don't have time for, in all honesty. I'll often start with it to really loosen things up and finish out with the Wet Brush to get some scalp stimulation. I use both on dry hair too, in case you were wondering. The Tangle Teezer makes my hair feel so soft when I use it on my dry hair, but if I brush for too long, it'll cause static.

Probably the most important thing I do is use a detangler. There are many creams and sprays out there, but I found one at CVS a long time ago and the same bottle is going strong. The Shea Moisture Ray Shea Butter Extra-Moisture Detangler (with Sea Kelp and Argon Oil) has been amazing.

I even pictured how much I use for my longer hair (it reaches my bra strap on my back, for reference) because I wanted to emphasize how this large bottle would keep for a long time. I use it every time I wash my hair and I've had it well over a year. It can be a bit pricey, but if you wait for a good sale or a coupon to come through CVS (and utilize your ExtraBucks!) it's not a huge investment. And by pricey, I mean like... $13-16 depending on your area. I can't remember what I paid for this but I know I picked it up because it was on sale.

This is safe for color treated hair and is sulfate free, if you're worried about it. Sometimes, when I want an extra moisture/shine boost, I'll add a pea size of argon oil to my regular amount of detangler and mix it together before applying to my hair.

I love this product and if you use it/try it let me know if you love it too!

Meg

Psst. This is not a sponsored post. I paid for this product with my own money a long, long time ago. I just love it!

Physicians Formula Eye Enhancing Extreme Shimmer Gel Cream Shadow

When Tati from Glam Life Guru reviewed these I knew I had to have them. They are gorgeous! The extremely long name is not lying when it says they are extreme shimmer. I swatched them for you below. Unfortunately the eyeshadows don't have individual names. The lightest color is very glittery but actually looks really pretty on top of the eyeshadow. It's the only one I used, I put it on the center of my eyelid to catch the light.

These are really gorgeous. The best way to use them is with your finger. I haven't found a brush that works well. I can't wait to use these all in a look! I just need to play around with them a bit more so I know how to make the most out of them.

Have you picked up any of the Physicians Formula line? They have so many new products out!

Em Cosmetics Unboxing!

I love watching YouTube makeup tutorials and when Michelle Phan announced that she was starting her own makeup line, I was excited to get my hands on it. Obviously, getting my hands on it took a while. It's kind of expensive and like with Makeup Geek, I had a hard time pulling the trigger. But, there was a sale and I took the opportunity to pick up a mini Life Palette and her eyeliner. I felt like these two items would allow me to try the range without invest too much money.

I chose the Winter Life palette, and it comes with two lip glosses, six shadows and a blush. The Life Palette Mini also comes with a little brush, but it doesn't fit in the palette. Honestly, it makes it feel a bit...unnecessary? This palette is supposed to be almost like a grab and go and to have a brush that just floats around doesn't seem very productive. I found myself wondering, where am I going to store it?

The swatches were all very impressive. I don't know why the black had a long dark streak in the middle, but they were very soft and pretty. I'm excited to use them! The lip glosses are sheer so they would be great as a top layer to a lipstick.

I needed a new eyeliner so I figured I'd pick one up. This felt tip is very flexible. When I swatched it, I tried to use the very end, for when you'd want a thin line close to the lashes. I also swatched using the middle and end to see how much control there would be over the flexible tip.  The third swatch was using the thickest part of the tip and tapered off the the thinnest. I just wanted to see how versatile the brush was.

I'm excited to put these to the test to see how they perform. Em Cosmetics is a division of L'Oreal, plus, with Michelle being a YouTuber who works with and reviews cosmetics on a regular basis, I would expect high quality products. Speaking of L'Oreal, I just reviewed a L'Oreal product that I absolutely love, so make sure to check that out here!

Makeup Geek Haul!

Armed with a little Christmas money from my Dad and Stepmom Delia, I finally pulled the trigger on getting some Makeup Geek eyeshadows! I purchased five well-known colors, Creme Brulee, Frappe, Peach Smoothie, Shimma Shimma and Cocoa Bear! I used them for the first time on Sunday. It was a really simple eye look because I thought we were going to church but my husband felt that we were all too sick and shouldn't infect others, which was the right call.

I can't wait to play around with them a bit more! I keep them in my Z Palette with my depotted Milani eyeshadows. The colors I got were very neutral but these, I feel, are the most raved about in their line. The only one I thought I might want to get is their black pan, but I have a few good black eyeshadows in my collection and I figured I should use those first.

Like I said, I was very light-handed with the shadows because I was going to church and then because I wasn't going anywhere. It was hard to snap photos that did it justice. I used Creme Brulee in the crease, Shimma Shimma on the lid and for the brow-bone highlight (which is gorgeous) and I put Cocoa Bear really lightly on the outer V of the eye. I then used the plum eyeliner that came in the Tarte Sweet Indulgences 3-in-1 Holiday Set to line my upper and lower lashline and used Smashbox Double Exposure Mascara on my upper lashes. I used Maybelline Lash Discovery on my lower lashline.

I didn't use them to their full capacity but I already love them. Can't wait to play with them more!

Do you have a favorite Makeup Geek eyeshadow? Let me know if I missed a good one!

L'Oreal Brow Stylist Plumper Review

---

I recently picked up the L'Oreal Brow Stylist Plumper in Medium-Dark. I've used it for the past two weeks and it definitely locks your brows into place. This would be a perfect product for someone that already has brows put wants to add a little definition and keep the hairs in place. I use Anastasia Dip Brow in Taupe and lock it down with this. It adds a little darker color and helps the taupe and my dark toned eyebrows blend together. This is way better than the Maybelline Brow Stylist.

Maybelline's version of this product has a pretty unusable brush (that I actually cut from a ball to a jagged normal brush). The L'Oreal Brow Stylist has a great brush that tapers towards the end so it's great to use on the thicker or thinner parts of your brush with zero problem.

I wanted to show the pigmentation so I firmly brushed it against a white piece of paper. It doesn't have enough color to fill in your brows completely but it "plump" your brows a bit and it will lock your brows in place. I've never tried it, but I think this would be a great dupe for Benefit Gimme Brow - maybe a tad less pigmented.

Some of my brow hairs are really stubborn and don't lay into place. When I use this my eyebrows do not budge. I'm in love! It makes your brows feel a little stiff, but not crunchy or brittle.

If you are looking for a good brow product this is worth the money!

Formal 2014: Bailee

A few months ago, a colleague from my day job asked me if I was available to do her daughters makeup for Formal in December. I was so thrilled that she asked and we set the day and time. Bailee loved how her silver smokey eye turned out and she looked absolutely gorgeous. I need to get better at snapping a 'before' picture but here are a few 'towards the end' pictures. She wasn't sure if she wanted to wait to put on her lipstick/gloss until later, but I ended up doing it after these were taken. She was so happy with how it came out!

When I was finished she said, "Oh my God, Mom! I look like a girl!" She plays sports so she doesn't often wear make-up and she doesn't want to wake up any earlier than she has to either. What a cutie!

Here is a picture of her in her dress with her date:

Thanks for letting me be a part of your big event, Bailee!
